Hi Guys

Need a little help please, got a problem with my 07 Sport Trac Ltd V8, I am not a engine guy so I apologies in advance if I don't explain this very well. So about a week ago I am driving down a street and suddenly I put my foot down and I lose acceleration and hear a roaring from the engine, I am getting a little acceleration but only to about 20 or 25mph but with the loud roaring noise. I pull over, turn the engine off for a minute and back on again and all is fine...I drive straight home.

All is fine for a few days and then I am out and it does it at a set of lights, so I pull over and check under the hood to see if I notice anything but nothing out of the ordinary. Start her back up again and it seems ok, I notice maybe the drive is a little bumpy when it happens but around here its tough to tell if its the roads or the vehicle. I should also mention its an automatic but when the fault happens its almost like its been dropped to neutral but I still get a little acceleration with the loud noise. When I start her up and leave the engine ticking over it sounds great no issues at all.

last year I had some issues with it missing and replaced the engine coils which I bought from eBay that were pretty cheap but would that really cause a problem? Also no management light showing!

Anyone any ideas what might be going wrong? Its obviously out of warranty and I will take it to the the dealer but wanted to see if its anything silly I could be doing wrong or could fix first.

Thanks very much

Stu from Orlando

hi outatime i suggest taking the car to a shop that haves an OBD2 scanner when the car is having the problem, maybe it could be the coils that aren't that good enough and they are starting to fail just to have them checked

I would change the plugs, coils, fuel filter, check the air filter, then disconnect the battery to let the ST relearn. I dont know your millage, but if you don't keep up with regular maintenance you will lose performance.

Similar experience

Several years ago something similar happened a couple of times with my 07 ST. I guessed that from the fan roaring and lack of power that the vehicle was overheating (or the computer thought it was) but after a restart it was back to normal. The coolant level was a bit low, maybe a quart, and dirty. Possibly a coincidence but I changed the thermostat and coolant and the problem never reoccured

Same thing happened to mine just after I purchased it..turned out to be a low coolant issue. In my case, coolant was leaking from the crossover coolant line under the intake. Check your coolant level...

Hi Guys

Sorry for the delay replying to this message I have not been very well the last few weeks. I checked the coolant level and it was very low so I topped it up but I still seem to be having the same issues although its very random when it happens and it seems to be from the engine fan making a lot of noise when I rev the engine. I was on my way out yesterday and it started playing up on the way so I pulled over and took a video of it which I will post shortly, turned around to go home and then the problem suddenly stopped and I just continued on my way like nothing had happened. Its very strange and hard to show the repair guy. Will get that video uploaded. Thank you
