- 07 explorer eddie bauer
Hi Everyone!
I am posting this with tons of regret and despair. I bought a 2007 Eddie bauer back in 2015 with 44k miles on it. The car was in perfect condition and it worked flawlessly for about 2 years after, then issues started popping.
I changed the MAF sensor twice, an alternator, an Engine oil leak, coolant leaking, the PCM unit (that failed again a week back) and much more.
I don't know if there's a tendency of unreliablity with the explorer, because a car with this range of low mileage is unlikely to fail this often.
Now, a new issue started! The gearbox lever moves as usual but when specifically putting the car in reverse, it doesn't engage! And if it does, i need to rev the engine way too much for it to actually start moving. I am seeing the park aid on the screen in my dash when putting it in R, but the car won't move! I also noticed that the engine hood gets way too hot, specifically near the driver's side that I can barely keep my hand on it. Although the thermostat on my dash shows normal temps, maybe I am imaging things or this can have an effect on the gearbox?
Another issue is that since I changed the MAF sensor 3-4 years back, the fuel consumption nearly doubled! I used to get an avg. of 18MPG before the replacement. After, it's been getting around 9MPG! I tolerated the issue because the car is nearly driven heavily as it is mainly used by my wife to pickup the kids from school, so the extra consumption, though heavily increased, wasn't that much of a problem due to low usage of the car as mentioned earlier.
Lastly, I picked up a PCM unit from my local scrap yard and replaced mine with it. A few days later, the ABS and the Roadtrack lights lit as well as 6 OBD codes:
p0135, p0443, p0403, p0161, p0155, p0141.
I searched online and found that the PCM unit is probably failing again. I bought one off of ebay and waiting to arrive. Hopefully, it fixes the issue. But my main issue now is the gearbox. I have no idea about transmissions and how they work and what could possibly be the problem here. Anyone has any ideas? Any insight, advice, or comment is heavily appreciated.
