This has happened very intermittently (6 times over past 4 years) and always while wife had it out of town. Finally happened while at home and was able to pull codes. The issue is while driving, usually on highway, the engine will just stop dead forcing her off to the shoulder and display engine and wrench lights. Always starts back up after shutting truck completely off and runs fine for a long time. This is an 08 explorer 4.6 eddie bauer we bought used. Has about 140k mi.

Multiply DTCs usually means bad harness.
Check your engine harness and replace worn components.then check inner PATS module related wires.

Use workshop manual pinppoint test to determine the exact wiring problem

Unfortunately, a problem that appears so infrequently can be very difficult to diagnose. Has all the instances happened when using the same key? If so, then an easy, inexpensive thing to try is to cut and program a new key. Then use it and see if the problem returns. The chips embedded in the keys are very reliable but things can, and do, happen. If it happens with more than one key then you can rule out it being a key related issue. Two of the codes listed deals with the PATS system and vehicle theft. Another is a generic code for communication malfunction (maybe with the PATS system controller?) and the last is related to disabling the engine (for theft reasons?). Since the problem never appears 99.9% of the time you probably won't read anything out of spec during diagnosing. I wish I had better advice for you.
