Hi guys,
When I first started I had a slipping between 1st and 2nd.
I read through the posts and good guide written by Glacier.
Based on the information I got from the diary and some other posts in this forum I got to work and replaced the EPC, gaskets and updated with a Transgo Kit. I also installed the Sonnax transmission boost valve & sleeve kit.

Well **** happens because it was only good for two weeks. I noticed a firm shift and sometimes a hard (very hard) shift when I started at the green light.

Anyway, I opened it the second time to see if the gasket blew or anothing else happenend but I could not find anything wrong with it. Any idea what that could be?? I am wondering if I should give the Superior Kit a try???

Any good comment is very appriated.

Welcome to this forum! Did you use a 1/4" drive In/Lb torque wrench on the valve body bolts?

Honestly, I didn't. But do you think right there is my issue? Obviously I am happy to drain and torque the screws if that solves the problem.
Does it make a big difference if the screws are a little over torqued? I guess the big concern is when the screws are too loose.
What do you think?

Yep, listen to BrooklynBay and go get the 1/4" torque wrench if you don't have one. Those bolts on the valve body must be torqued to the correct specs. I overtighten mine without knowing and got stuck on top of my ramps.

Andreas, welcome to the forum.:)

I installed the Superior kit about 70K miles ago and
the flare hasn't returned on mine.
I have a theory on the flare cause: The Superior kit
contains some steel spool valves that replace the
stock aluminum valves. I believe the aluminum valves
cause a galling in the aluminum bores and stick after a
while. The Superior steel valves slide more easily in their
bores, and have a better expansion ratio when heated.
(i.e., they don't expand as much as the stock aluminum
valves), and therefore move more freely.

These are only my thoughts, and I haven't seen anyone
else post similiar ideas as to the cause of the flare.
I only know that I've had success with mine.

So if the Transgo kit didn't have the steel spools included,
it might be worthwhile to try the Superior kit with the
steel spools........?

It makes sense what you wrote because steel is harder than aluminum and will less likely get stock. On the other hand, there are very strong springs installed and the parts are covered with an oil film. The moving parts are obviously slightly smaller and can easily move anyway. I believe the biggest issue are particals in the system. I think I even might have gotten some dirt in the tranny. I can not stress how inportant a clean workbench is when you do this kind of work. We are talking about tiny borewholes (1/10mm)! Any small partical can screw up everything.

The intresting part is: I had a torque wrench ready when I saw the posts about the right torque. You guys are right and I just ignored it first...But, yesterday I drove the car home and the slipping/flare was gone. When I drove to work yesterday morning the flare was still there. Kinda weird?! Maybe dirt, maybe the screws are now properly set after driving 35miles??? Any ideas ?

All of the bolts have to torqued to spec for it to work properly. If not, then it could warp the valve body, cause spools to bind, and put uneven pressure on the gasket.

You're right. PLease see my post to " Runnin'OnEmpty "
