Hey guys,
So the Exploder hit 125k miles today which I feel is a pretty big mile stone. There are two small projects I feel like I want to undergo to make sure things last as long as possible!

1) Transmission
-Current preventative measures: Secondary B&M Transmission cooler (as well as the stock one and the stock towing package one)
-Purafilter oil filter allowing me to use a oil filter to filter the transmission fluid. Filter changed every 3k with oil changes and a quart of fresh transmission fluid added

I plan on changing the filter (never done, yikes) and getting the tranny flushed (done at 75k)

2. Engine
-Synthetic Mobil 1 always used during oil changes.
I plan on running two bottles of the grey bottle of Gunk. The stuff you pour in the oil, run the motor for 5 mins in idle while the stuff cleans the crap out, then you change your oil to get it all out. The reason I say run 2 is the bottle says a second application might be needed for older motors. Since the lower oil pan gasket is leaking slighty, I can run two bottles (it says if two ran, drop the oil pan and clean real good).

Goes anyone think this is a good plan? Since the engine is older, is it okay to flush it like it without harming any aged sealed? Let me know. Thanks

1) If the tranny has hit 125K sucessfully, I'd simply continue the maintenence schedule you've been doing all along.

2) Your Mobil 1 synthetic oil has most definately kept the inside of your engine nice and clean. The only thing that should be in your crank case is OIL. Anything else is simply put - snake oil!

If the engine and trans had been cared for correctly, all you need to do is continue doing what you've been doing and you should enjoy many more miles.

Transmission- I hear you there. I guess since I’ve gone so long without doing a flushing and never did the filter, I figured it might need that. I run a secondary oil filter (Mobil 1) but the main internal filter has never been flushed. Are you saying I should just let it be?

Engine- That was my main concern- snake oil. I wasn’t sure if flushing the motor out would really help that much OR if it would hurt since the seals in the motor are aged. I am thinking to just keep on doing what I do- run Mobil 1 oil and Mobil 1 filter.

Definitely a good plan to change the internal trans filter.

If you have been using Mobil 1 the whole time, I think you will be wasting your money on an engine flush.

I feel you there. Well I am the second owner of the truck. Been using mobile 1 since approx 48k. I will admit, there were a few times I've been cheap and used the Q Power full synthetic. You know, the commercials with the oil horses running beside the car lol. I should be fine if I ran synthetic period yes?

As a general rule, synthetic oils have high detergency so they should keep varnish and sludge from building up inside the engine. So I wouldn't bother with an engine flush unless you have reason to believe there is an issue. 48k miles isn't that much on a modern engine so there probably wasn't much buildup when you got the truck.
