I bought a BW 1354 that was pulled from a 98 Ranger and wow its a bit different from the 1354s that everyone else on the board is putting in.
Where the speeed sensor is, there is just a hole - no sensor!
I put my finger in there to feel whether or not maybe some one had just removed the sensor, but it doesnt seem like it. In other words, I don't feel anything for the sensor's gear to hook up to. Its basically like as if some one drilled about a 3/4" hole into a block of metal but did not drill all the way through - its just a 'well' on the surface of the t-case. Is the speed sensor's hole supposed to be like this?
there is one dark brown (or black) wire coming out about an inch or an inch and a half below where the speed sensor WOULD be. I have no clue what this wire is! I've read on the board that these single brown wires are usually for the electro-magnetic clutches but this is a manual t-case.
Has anyone ever used these later model 1354s ... or have any inputs on whether or not I can use this one on my X (98 sohc 5r55e)?
I bought this particular t-case hoping that it would have less mileage on it and hopefully less wear.
If I did swap this in but did not hook up the speed sensor, would I still be able to drive my X normally? I guess what I'm asking is, is the speed sensor on the t-case only used to tell whether or not theres "slip" between the rear and the front wheels? Or are they also used for other things like the vehicle's speedometer?
(sorry I don't have any pics, I'll try to borrow my friend's camera and post pics up if i can.)
