Hey how’s it going, I’m new to the forms and new to owning a explorer. I just bought this 14 explorer base with front end damage, fixed everything that was broken, replaced the valve cover, radiator, condenser, had a code for the rear wheel speed sensor so I changed that out, all codes cleared. I take it out for a test drive for the first time and it won’t let me go over 10 mph without the tc light coming on and the car automatically slows me to a stop. No codes, checked the battery terminals and they’re fine, someone help me before I drive it into the river!

What happens if you turn Traction Control OFF?

I didn’t try that yet, I didn’t see a button but I think you can do it through the dash.

I believe it is in the settings.
Hey, tried that. Still doing the same thing, I’ve done some research and now I’m leaning towards the steering angle sensor, now my issue is that my snap on scanner does not do SAS for some odd reason. What’s your thoughts?

I really don't know now what it may be. Perhaps the issue isn't with TC. TC is there to help maintain traction, it can't bring you to a stop. It is quite possible that another issue is causing that light to come on. A trouble code would sure help.

Yeah that’s the thing that’s blowing my mind, there is no codes thrown. Super frustrating. Thanks for the help anyways. I’m gonna be elbow deep into this until I find out what’s up, I’ll let you know when I find out what it is

It could be the steering angle sensor. If the vehicle control systems think the wheel is actually turned but the vehicle is going straight, they may reduce power significantly in order to avoid a perceived loss of traction by the front wheels. Possibly you have the steering wheel one turn off centre?

Update, pull fuse 92, abs and now the car drives amber 10mph. I am assuming it’s a abs issue now, still no codes.

Hey Rob, have you gotten any further with this? Im having the same issue after replacing a rear wheel bearing and speed sensor on my 14.

So I broke down and took it to a shop, guy at the shop said the the front left wheel was reading 15mph and the front right was reading 8mph when actually going 15mph. I changed all the sensors before I took it so he is replacing the wheel bearing. Usually the magnet cracks when this happens

I have never heard of that before but can see why that would affect the Traction Control system. Please report back after the bearing replacement to see if that did indeed correct the issue. Thanks.

Rear wheel bearing was bad, cracked magnet
