I replaced my t stat bout a month ago. Its moving again but still doesnt get past the N. I also replaced the t stat switch. Anywho, I have heard people replacing t stat with like 160 too. What will that do? I have a 195 now, but can some one clear all this up for me thanks.

Some people have used the 160 degree T-Stat, however you have to remember that the truck was originally designed to use the 195degree T-Stat and the computer has the parameters for the 195 degree T-Stat. What does this mean? Your trucks optimal running temperature is 195 degrees. If you put a 160 degree T-Stat then the computer tries to compensate for this, but never gets there because of the T-Stat. these tries and doesn't make it have to be doing something to your engine, but I don't know how much it really affects your performance. Maybe someone else knows the answer to that question. I always use the standard 195 degree T-Stat myself.

One more thing. If you put a 160 degree T-Stat in, your guage will read even less than with the 195 degree T-Stat.
Make sure that you have gotten all the air out of the cooling system, because air in the system will also give you a false low reading.

I've got 195 in mine now, It never gets above the N. I have a 160 that I have yet to install. The reason I have the 160 is that it is recommended with the after market chip that IS installed. Running a lower degree stat will make the computer think the engine is cold all the time, therefor it will make the air/fuel ratio richer..Results will be poor performance and lower fuel economy..lol

ok thanks guys, what did you mean by getting all of the air out of the cooling system?

What that means is when you changed the thermostat, it was possible that air got into the cooling system. If you take the truck and face it with the front of the truck at an incline and with the engine running, take the radiator cap off let the engine run until the thermostat opens up ( you'll see the fluid flow a lot more) and see if the level drops. Then fill it up until it full. You might have to do this a couple of times.

OOh yeah ok thanks. I dont think there is any air in there, I replaced the thermostat a good 3 weeks ago, and my rediator level has not changed.
