I recently picked up a 92 e.b. in great shape, and put a 4" susp. lift on it.

I want to run 35's bad.

The rims on this X look really nice, and I would like to keep them if possible. Unfortunately, I suspect the rim size is no good for my needs(16X8)

I am pretty sure I am going to pick up a kit from Perry's fab-fiber before I do anything else.

So, my questions to all you seasoned vets are:

1. Does a tire exist that will fit that rim size?

2. If I get the kit from Perry's, will the 35's fit well?

3. If not, will a body lift help (is it even feasible to do a body lift with one of those kits?)

4. Will the D35 and 8.8 run the 35's?

A couple pointers would be much appreciated.

1 probably not in a 16" rim size
2 maybe, maybe not...trimming will be needed
3 it would help ot, and will minimize trimming
4 the axles will hold up ok, for most but the extreme hard core stuff.....

35s for a 16" rim no problem

Uh... Jim, a quick look through any catalog or magazine ads will get you dozens of 35" tires for a 16" rim - 17" 18" and even 15" rims too. Some of them will be metric 315/75-16 or 235/85-16, some will be 35/12.50 -16 etc. You should have a dozen or so tread styles for a 16" rim.

I think that any tire 35 and over looks much better on the larger 16" and 17" rim. They should also be a bit more stable on the street.

Have fun

1-Like Steve say's you can get 35's in 15',16',17' and 18'. Keep in mind the bigger the rim size the more expensive the tire. Buy an off-road magazine and check out prices. You might be better off selling your 16' rims and going 15's. I ran 35X12.50X15 for two years and they were pretty stable on the road. Now that I'm going to 37X12.50X17 the prices are crazy.

2-I have perry's front and rear kit and had to do a lot of trimming. Depends how much articulation you get out of your rig. I suggest once you buy the tires and articulate the suspension without the springs to get an idea. Most rigs are different. Also if it's going to be just a street rig you may not have too much of a problem vs hardcore. There's a couple of good articles in the Tire and suspension threads. Look them up.

3-A body lift can be expensive. You don't want to go over 51/2 to 6' lift, it affects your center of gravity and you can get tippy real fast. Colin Ignacio AKA Fenderguy is running 35's with a 41/2 lift and Perry's glass. He is selling his rig. Contact him for more info on how he did it. If you want to go higher than 41/2' maybe you should consider selling your lift on the site and getting a Superlift 51/2' lift with superrunner steering.

4-In general the D35 will hold up well. I ran the D35 with 35' tires for 2 years. Rocks were no problem. The 2 times I broke something was on sand in Truckhaven. 1st time I blew the Warn locking hub and the 2nd time the axle yoke. This was due to spinning tires and a lead foot. Slow is the key. The 8.8 should be OK. There are plenty of ways to beef it up.

hey...what kind of rims do you have? (its very hard to find aftmakket rims for the 91-94 explorers that will accomodate the 4x4 hubs in front)

I have ultra rims. 16X8.
