Hi guys/ gals. I bought a 180 degree Hypertech T-stat, and I am thinking I need to drill a vent hole at the 12 o'clock position. Am I right? I had to special order it and it cost about $20 so I don't want to waste more time and money. '93 Ed B 4x4 auto six cylinder. Thanks in advance. New rad, fan clutch, water pump, hoses and transmission is being rebuilt.

Every thermostat I install that is installed horizontal gets a hole drilled in it, or I remove the little thing they put in the hole. I know it slows down the heating up of the motor but it also lessens the shock of the thermostat opening and lets any air through.

I haven't done that to the 460 in the Van since it is installed vertically and is a 160F, high flow/balanced thermostat.

The 180 superstat I have says it doesn't need a hole. It's designed this way.
