Okay, I might have enough money as of tomorrow to buy some new wheels and tires, even though I still have the '03 Cobra wheels sitting in my basement because they didn't work. I'll just sell them to somebody else.

Anyways, I am considering the Moda R7 wheels offered on TireRack in either 18's or 20's:

I am also considering the Enkei RT6 which are also offered in 18's and 20's:

What advantages would you have going with 18's instead of 20's? I've heard that 20's ride rough compared to 18's because of the tires lacking sidewall. Do you think it is worth the extra cost to go with 20's? I don't plan on lowering my '02 Sport and will try to keep the tires close to my stock diameter of 28.95". In 18's, 255-55-18 comes closest, but I'm not exactly sure about the 20's. Let me know what you think, give me some opinions, and I'll try to make a final decision.

Thanks again for all the help,

Derek

Derek,
You know what I say get the 20"s there not that much more, usually. They look a whole lot better. Don't get me wrong 18"s look great too. Just that they sometimes look a little like you didn't do it all the way with the 20"s. My vote is for the Moda R7 in 20". I have always like those rims. The ride is not bad at all on dubs. Anyway for tires you will need to get the Goodyear 275/45-20 or other brands have 265/50-20. Either size is acceptable and with- in a half inch of outter diameter.

Let me know if you need any help.

Also don't forget DO NOT tell Tirerack.com that you have an explorer!

just curious-why wouldn't he tell tirerack what kind of a ride he has?

Yeah, I've heard many people say this. I'll just tell them I have a Sport Trac or even a Jeep Cherokee. Whatever works to get my wheels.

im quite happy with my 18"s really. The deciding factor with me was price. I found my 18"s for 1000 with tires, but that was an unusually good price. The cheapest 20's i could find were a bit under 2 grand. Both rims would look sweet. I'd go for the moda r7s. Check out superbuytires.com or afftw.com as well. afftw.com deals with you and you can see what they look like on ur truck (and any other truck, rim, u can think of). ever see 23" rims on a mercedes SLK? hahah they stick out of the hood.....

i have reaserched and all in all it would be cheaper to get 20's IMO. the 275/45/20's are only $130 a tire where the 18's are much more expensive a piece. A friend of mine works at www.truckxpressions.com(in lexington, KY) and they do not like to sit on inventory, so they are always having sales on 20's and what not. check them out. chrome 20's brand new for $199 a piece

Get the dubs. That way you'll never think you did it halfassed if you get the 18s and think they are too small

any good websites ont he moda R7 wheels with sizes, offsets, and so on... tirerack sucks!

Heres another site for basically everything , including jsut about every rim made. go to :
www.salesco.com

I'm thinking about getting the 18" or 20" KMC Clockers for the 02' Mounty, very sweet rims

i'll be getting 20's for my x, but i don't know what offset and pitch the standard rims are, and should i get a higher negative offset over standard to get wheelarch clearance?

some feel that 20's are too much rim ;)

Just thought I'd let you all know I ordered the 20's earlier this week and they will be arriving at my doorstep on MONDAY!!!

I am so excited, can't wait to put them on! Yes, they set me back right around $2,000 but thats okay, it'll be worth it.

I will take pics on Monday and post them for all to see.

which ones did ya end up getting?

I ended up getting the Moda R7 wheels in 20x9. I looked at so many wheels online and narrowed it down to those. I can't wait till they come, they will be here MONDAY. I should have pics up no later than Tuesday.

Can't wait to see pics...

i have my KMC V 2 20's and i love the look of them. they dont ride any worse than my old stock tires in my opinion and i think they even ride more quiet than my other tires. man $2000 !!??? i wish i could have swung that deal. i bought my rims for about $2300 and tires for about $600 i think. only thing i got to say is if you can afford it which i know you can because you already ordered them is get the 20's if ya like the look. 18's are sooo close thqat you might as well go 20". otherwise i would like a nice set of 17's. they look a little bigger than stock but dont look like they are trying to be too big to compete with the 20's for size. size not just being an issue the rims have to match the vehicle too. i seen a bada$$ bmw with some bada$$ 22" rims but together they looked ugly. good luck when they get there. and post some pics too.
