1991 Explorer with 4x4 problems.

Thank you for the welcome, I have a fair mechanical apptitude so hopefully with some direction i can get this thiung fixed, i just dont have the money to take to a shop so all help will be much appreciated.
here is the problem when i push the button on the dash board to engage four wheel it does not light up and does not engage where should i start.

Probably the shift motor or 4x4 module. Search around on here and you can find tons of info on it and how to test the 4x4 module.

Mine did that when I bought it, The wiring harness in the back of the switch wasnt plugged in, I'd start by pulling out the switch and seeing if its plugged in.
