1999 Ford Explorer: multiple problems.

:bounce:

Does anyone know what would cause the radio display to go out, rear right passenger window to stop working and fuel gauge (computerized reading on console between seats) to misread amount of fuel left before "low fuel level" comes on? Yesterday the fuel gauge said I had 50 miles until empty "Fuel Level Low", this morning the gauge says 73 miles until empty... Everything above has transpired within a 24 hour period. Could it be something with the computer?
Of course warranty expired 2 months ago...

Lucy is it a 91 or 99? Bc the Thread says 91 and your profile and title for the post say 99... If its a 91, its just flat out old... but if its 99... good question. Welcome to the board...

Bryan:

Sorry, made the correction.... it's a '99.

Thanks :)

Thanks Bryan. Ran off a copy of that article regarding my radio last night (16 pages worth) very informative. Just thought that maybe with the multiple issues coming up all at the same time, it might be something else...

If you still got the warranty use it up. I may know how to fix stuff on my wifes Cirrus but I have an after market warranty and I use it! Hey its a free rental car out of the deal too.

Lucy, have you had the GEM recall done? The GEM controls all things electronic, and they had lots of problems in '99 with them (mostly seen as the phantom windshield wiper prpblem). As for the gas reading, were you parked on an incline?? The gauge will read hi if you are facing uphill, and low if you are facing downhill, so if the console takes it's calculations from the position of the gauge, it will be off....... You may also notice you can pump more gas into the tank if you are facing downhill.
