1993 4.0 headaches

Okay,

Got a dead 1993 ford explorer 2wd at the side of my house. It was parked at 64,000 miles after the car started spraying antifreeze all over the place out the overflow tank as we limped home. What is going on? I hear some people talking about cracked heads. Is this what might be going on? Could I just bolt some new ones on, and sail down the road again?

yeah, sounds like a stuck thermostat to me. id look into if it was just over-heating first before pulling the heads. good luck man

Yes,

It was over heating. The thermostat is fine, never had a problem with it. How do I look for a cracked head? I want to know before I go ripping the engine apart.

Maybe check for restrictions first. Even mud and stuff in the radiator heat exchanging fins...had that happen in my past. Even more simple, the radiator cap, is it still good?

Then I think either head failure or better yet, head gasket failure should show up when a pressure test is applied to the cooling sys..

I had a head gasket failure 2x before in other vehicles. They overheaded, lost (used coolant) without a trace...went out the exahaust. But you might see a foaming in the radiator after the thermostat opens up that would most likely lead you to believe either the head(s) failed or simply the head gasket blew.
