1994 Explorer trans question...

1994 Explorer 4whl dr
I gotta pull the trans on my Explorer (4whl dr) 4.0.
I was wondering if I can pull the trans with out pulling the torque converter and bell housing?

I'm pulling it because I was'nt getten 2nd gear fr a year now anf tried everything I could think of..
I finaly pulled the pan and found big parts of the second gear band in the pan. :(
 






I don't think the tranny comes off the bell housing...gotta take the hole thing out. I have an m5 in mine and that's the way it is.

do a search there will be a a thread or two describing how to remove the tranny i'm sure!

No you will need to undo the TC and bring the entire thing down. (Bell included). In the Useful Threads section there is a Diary on how to rebuild the A4LD. It might be useful to you in replacing the band, or rebuilding, whichever you plan to do.
