Hi, Just found this forum today. Looks like a good source for car help. First time I've particapated in a forum and feel really clueless. I have a 1994 Ford Ranger with a 211 code-Profile Ingnition Pickup circuit failure!!! Not sure how to proceed and don't want to start throwing parts at it. No spark to the plugs. Coils checked out OK using a multimeter.
"iwantacelica" posted a similar problem last month and I would like to know how I could find out if he solved the 211 code problem?

Welcome to this forum! The profile ingnition pickup or "PIP" as the repair manuals call it is a hall effect magnetic sensor similar to the design of the ABS or RABS sensor on later models without an internal gear. To start, I know that the 2.4 4 cylinder uses 2 spark plugs per cylinder. Do you have this on your model? The next question is if you have a distributorless ignition with a coil pack or the old style distributor?

The problem got progressively worse over about 2 months. The first time it died (as if the key had been turned off) and started right back up. It did this for about a month with increasing frequency. After about a month, I had to wait longer and longer to be able to restart it. It hasn't started for about 4 days now.
No Spark
Put a new Fuel filter in after the third time it died/no help

Misery loves company, or so I've heard. Got any ideas? I'm thinking its the Ignition Controll Module (ICM) or the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP). So I decided to remove the ICM and take it to be tested (3-6-08). After I finally located it, mounted on the intake manifold, I realized I would have to remove the AC compressor and powering steering pump to get to ICM's tiny mounting screws !!! My Haynes manual doesn't mention this and in fact says to remove it from the fenderwell.
Sure was easier to work on cars BC (before computers)!
Gonna read my manual on how to remove the compressor and pump and hope it doesn't say thier on the fenderwell.
