I drive a 95’ Aerostar 3.0 L RWD with 130k miles. Rust free. Just got it not too long ago, but some issues I’ve found but can’t seem to solve.
1. Rough idle. Almost sounds like it’s half mis firing. No codes. I have done cap, rotar, distributor, plug wires, plugs, PCV valve, IDle air sensor (I think that’s what it’s called), idler pulleys, serp belt, water pump, and other loose odd ends. I don’t have bad gas milage and it runs well, gets up to speed well and drives great on the highway. I have no clue why it idles bad, and it’s intermittent at times. When it really acts up the engine starts to bog and it sounds like it has a cam lol. I’m not sure where else to look.

Issue 2- running cold, losing small amount of coolant. van does not overheat. Always sits at the O. When I did my Tstat the bolts broke, was able to drill and tap a new hole but it’s was slightly off so it doesn’t leak but sweat coolant. Ultimately I’m going to rebuild the motor, but what I’m not sure of is what other models did Ford make that share the upper intake manifold?

thanks

Welcome to this forum! Did you clean the mass air flow sensor? What kind of spark plugs did you install? I had a similar issue when I installed Bosch platinum plugs. They didn't work well with my engine. The Ranger had a 3.0L engine in those years too. What was the temperature of the new thermostat?
