Having trouble with my electronically controlled 4 wheel drive. The switch on the dash will light up and go out as it pleases, but when i switch it to the desired setting it shows up properly in my instrument cluster and stays lit. But, still doesn't work.
Could it be the switch, any suggestions on how to test it, or any suggestions of something else to check, Thanks!

I think on your 95 it had a vacuum controlled font axle disconnect. I would check the vacuum lines going to it. If it has a cracked vacuum line it will not be able to activate the front wheels in 4x4 mode.

i think you may be right, i've tested the switch and the transfer case motor, both seem to be working fine. do you have any suggestion on how to test these lines other than a visual inspection, be cause i don't notice anything. also, any suggestions on references on were to fin information on these parts and how to change them, ive been having trouble locating thorough information on them. Thanks!

Hi Johnny. I share your pain!

I am currently looking for answers on the same issue:

The dealership told me I need a new vacuum motor; the part number is below. I've been looking for it off and on for a couple of years. They told me '95 is the last year it was used, that it is out of stock at Ford. I tried a lot of parts sellers to no avail. I think the suggestion about lines leaking is a good one. The motor could be fine but just not getting vacuum to the lever mechanism. Plus it could be just a gasket issue. I am planning to pull it and try to repair it myself when the weather gets a little better, assuming I don't find a replacement.
