Hey all
I'm new to the forum, but found it extremely useful. Noticed my explorer was performing sluggish and mpg were going down. check engine light kept coming on and after a week had enough. logged on to this forum and did some research. Many said it would be the egr valve, but to get the codes pulled and find out for sure. I live in a small town and the nearest autozone is over an hour away. Luckily my brother is a mechanic and works with someone who has a scanner. Took it in, got it scanned, and bingo - egr valve.
ordered the parts off napa, 50 bucks for the valve 50 for the position sensor. Sensor went on fine but because (i think) the valve was the original it was so rusted on that it tooks a few hours of heating and spraying with kroil before it came loose. cleaned things up and now, 2 days later, car is running great and no check engine light.
