EGR valve issues

That is fine, I was took for a second there when I came across your thread on the swap, then I was like what the hell. But, you just now but the gasket on the egr? If so, reset the ECU before you go driving off and get a fresh diagnostic. Let me know.

If the cam is off by one degree positive of or negative, it is not an issue but that of timing at combustion and when the valves open or closing. But, have you taken the cover off to see if the timing marks are right inline with the cam?

skyjumper,
will be looking for a gasket tomorrow. Don't know if I can buy a gasket w/o the EGR valve...will see. Will disc for 30min and re connect bat before running for codes. I'll know soon enough if the truck runs smoothly or not. If there is still and issue, then the camposensor/synch gearing investigation is next on the list.

I appreciate your, and everyone else on this site who's jumped in and helped. Be nowhere without the help.

Okay, one issue fixed. EGR gasket replaced. Idles smooh as a baby's bottom. Starts in at 1K and settles nicely to 600.

What's still on the table...almost a miss at 1,500rpm under load. I say almost because it just feels like one cylindar is soft. At 1,700rpm it smooths out and at 2k it runs absolutely normal.

Ran 20min with no CEL codes, or eng light.

Could the synch be one tooth retarded? Something with that sychronizer is the only thing left that I can think of. Any ideas appreciated.

To answer my own question...turns out that the synch can be off a tooth, and even the synch assembly can be off causing the fuel and spark to no longer be coordinated which can burn pistons. Yikes. I'm now about the business of confirming that the synch is properly installed, and that the cmpsensor is functioning. Stumbling at low rpms appears to be an expected result of retarded timing, and at least worth hunting.
