Hi All,

I am a newbie to this forum. I just joined because i purchased a 1995 XLT and had a 2 part question.

I want to install an aftermarket stereo and have been reading this forum trying to figure out how to install the radio, i see that if you have the JBL sound system there are extra steps needed. I read that i might need the Metra 70-5601 harness. Does this bypass the factory amp? If so if there a way to integrate it? I am not looking for a "booming" system I just want all the speakers to work properly.

Part 2 of my question...The read audio controls....I assume they will no longer work after installing an after market system....no big deal i guess...but using the harness will the rear AC/Heater controls still work.

If someone can point me in the right direction it would be great because searching this site is a little overwhelming.

Thanks a million

There are different wiring harnesses made, depending on what you want to do.

There's a harness for using an aftermarket radio and bypassing the factory tuner, a harness for using the factory amp with an aftermarket radio, and a harness for connecting an aftermarket radio to an aftermarket amp using the factory wiring.

The Metra 70-5601 you speak of seems to be a tuner bypass harness, with all new speaker wires, so you can run all new wire to new speakers rather than mess with the factory radio and tuner system that's in there.

It's a good option, but not necessary. You can just get the basic Ford harness for the head unit, then buy bulk speaker wire and run your own wire from the head unit to each speaker.

You could also get an aftermarket amp for the subwoofer, and even install an aftermarket 8" sub in there too. If you add in aftermarket speakers, you get a pretty good all around system on a budget.

The factory audio controls will no longer work, but the rear climate controls are unaffected.

Thanks for your help.

What would i get if i wanted to use an aftermarket radio and the factory installed Amp and sub woofer.

Like i said i dont need anything really great...I already have the head unit from my previous car and i want the easiest solution

Thank you
