My wife and I have a 1995 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer edition and we've been having some trouble with it lately. Here's what's been happening. The overdrive light which gave us problems before every now and again now comes on more frequently (mostly when going at a faster speed on the open road, in town driving it doesn't seem to happen) I read somewhere that most of the time this happens it's due to a bad sensor and that you disconnect the battery for a while and reconnect it to reset the sensor and that solves the problem so we've been doing that and it solves the problem temporarily. (it keeps the transmission from clunking when shifting gears temporarily at least) We don't want our transmission to go bad and to have to deal with that after all. It also seems to be having a harder time climbing bigger hills now than it did before.

A new problem it has been having recently though (this started a few nights ago) we went to the city to pick up my nephew from the bus stop and we were sitting there waiting for his bus to show up. We didn't have our Explorer running, we were listening to the radio though and when we went to start it back up, nothing. It wouldn't start at all, we then tightened the cables on the battery and then it started right up. Last night however, we were visiting my in-laws and then after we had visited for a while and we went to leave, again it wouldn't start. This time we tightened the battery cables and nothing, we loosened the battery cables and put them back on and nothing and we tried to get it to start for over 20 minutes with no luck and we had to ask for a ride home. Our headlights still came on and I could hear a click when my wife tried to start it up, the radio came on, the interior lights worked. Everything seemed to work except for the fact that it wouldn't start. When my brother in law got home from work this morning, first thing he did was try to start the Explorer up with the remote starter and it started right up. Then he tried starting it with the key and it started right up. He then tried starting it a few minutes later and it started right up. We know we were having a major issue with getting it to start last night though and we're not very confident in it at the moment, afraid now that we might park it somewhere and that happen again and we'd be stuck somewhere. We really have no clue what the problem could be though. Any advice, ideas, or help you may have to offer would be appreciated. Thank you for your time guys!

Hi i have the same problem on my 1995 4.0 Explorer. i need to disengage the battery for 30 min and then its start tree four times before i need to dissengage it again.

so please help us.

I had a 92 Explorer that did the same thing. There was a problem with the battery cable from the factory. It was listed as a recall. Try those first...trust me-easier than removing electrical parts.
