1996 4.0 L Ticking Noise

I've searched through the forums and haven't read any problems that sound exactly like my "problem".

My truck makes a loud ticking sound when I'm accelerating. If I rev it in neutral, there is no tick, only when I put my foot on the gas when I'm driving or when I first start it in cooler weather.

I've had sticky lifters in past when I forgot to top the oil up after a long trip, but it doesn't seem to be the same sound.

I'd love to hear some input before I spend some cash and bring it to my mehcanic...

I had that problem in my '94. I changed my oil, and made sure that I put 10W30 in it, now there's no noise at all. You might also get a bottle of "detergent booster" or whatever they call it.
