Sorry to make another thread...just need some ideas quick...

1996 Ford Explorer 4.0 Eddie Bauer V6 4X4: 197k

Transmission was just replaced a week ago by me. Rebuilt. Worked perfectly at first. Then slipped like crazy. Now it isn't slipping as bad...

Problem:
On top of the minor slippage, the problem is that when the throttle gets florred, it reacts slowly and is slow acceleration, and does NOT kick down UNLESS I back off the throttle. I don't understand it?? Was working perfectly for 5 minutes, then it started to slip. Now it slips and doesn't kick down. O/D light is blinking. ABS light is on. Just replaced the VSS. Haven't touched the engine yet.

I need some ideas!

Filled fluid to like 9.6, and mine takes 9.8. Is this Explorer Mercon V?

HELP!

Thanks in advance

Need some ideas on this...

I'm actually still having this problem. Pulling the code and going from there.

Yes, mercon5. Did you check the fluid level with the dip stick? Engine running and in park.

Yes I did. I just used regular mercon because that's what the manual told me to use? Did I put the wrong fluid in?? Thnx poprichie

No, regular Mercon is ok , Mercon 5 has replaced it, Can't get regular mercon around where I am.

Sorry meant to pull the code much sooner but broke my leg into four pieces. Lets just say that explorer wi be sitting there for a while. Lol

WOW, that's not good.

Drained about 1 quart of trans fluid and trans works almost perfectly now...trust that dipstick...not your math...(even though it was right)...?????
