i have a 1996 explorer with a seriouos water issue. There is coolant leaking out of the back of the motor. The view is restricted and I cannot see exactly where it is coming from. It runs out about as fast as you put it in. I am assuming it is a head gasket as I cannot think of any hoses or anything with the cooling system running back there. I am thinking that the cost to replace the head gasket would be in the $1500 to $2000 range and not worth even fixing. Any ideas on what it could be?

Could it be a freeze plug?

Where in the back? On the passanger side you have the water conduits for the heater core going tru the firewall.

what motor? My 4.0 ohv did that. The lower intake gasket was blown out. I was amazed at how bad the water leaked out the back.
Replaced lower intake gaskets and I was good for about a year. Now my passenger head gasket leaks.
