Hello. My son's 96 Explorer has a high-pitch noise coming from the front passenger side wheel. When you apply the brake the noise ceases. My thought was brake pads needed replacing. I took it into a local shop to have done yesterday as well as rotate/balance the tires. When I returned to p/u, the mechanic told me the brake pads were good...only half worn down. His thought was that maybe they were cheaper pads?? I didn't hear the noise going home with it, but my son tells me it's still there today.
Is this something I should be concerned about or is it possibly the pads? I've not replaced the brake pads ever as we just purchased this vehicle in December 06.
Thanks!
