the transmission is doing this..
The transmission is like being in neutral, it doesnt go into gear you can hear it and when you put it into parks it squeaks.

it is on one that i am buying for $800.00 and was wondering what this could be...
i had a 98 wiindstar van that did this and it was the neutral safety switch,
thanks

not sure which tranny is in it.

If it's an automatic, and if it's a 6 cylinder and if it is stock, then it is a 4R55E.

Is there any fluid in it? How long as it been sitting? Are you trying to fix it, or just trying to get an idea of what it will take to get it fixed?

i was wanting to get it to fix it but i have no idea if it is just something small. or the whole tranny. which isnt a big deal i guess...and get an idea of what it could be as i have no experience at all with 4 wheel drive system in explorers.

Check the condition of the fluid. Is it burnt? Does it have any fluid in it?

Do you know the history of the transmission? Has it ever been rebuilt?

Have you scanned for codes?

You can buy a rebuilt 4R55E for around $1,000. There is usually an additional core charge associated, you'll get the core charge back when/if you return your old transmission. You'll need to pull the old transmission out and install the new one yourself or pay someone to do it.

If you take the truck to a shop and they want to rebuild it, expect to pay in the neighborhood of $2,000. A few years ago my local Ford dealer quoted me $3,000 + for a new 4R55E.

Good luck.

thanks just curious as i havent even gone to seen it yet
