1997 4.0L SOHC swap to 5.0L questions.

1997 Ford Explorer XLT
4.0L SOHC "Vin E"
4wd
and a **** load of miles .

Ok i have some questions here. i have searched and found some info related, but not enough (there were SOOOooo many threads to go through and 1/2 of them didnt apply, only showed up because of a keywords "engine, swap, 4.0L, ect.."

I want to swap my high mile 4.0L SOHC for a low mile 5.0L. i need to know::

1) what year/years 5.0L will work the best/easiest for my 1997 swap?

2) what trans should i go with (im leaning toward the awd instead of the 2wd since i cant have the 4wd i guess from what i have read?)

3) am i going to have to install new motor mounts? or is there a 5.0L that will bolt right up to my existing mounts?

97 would be the best, closest match (pre pats) you won't be able to keep your current transfer case but you could still have true 4wd. You would use the awd transmission and swap in a 4406 transfer case. If you search there is a lot of info about the swap.
