i need to see the wiring diagram/schematic for the camshaft position sensor for a 1997 Ford Explorer with a 5.0L V8. i suppose an accurate description of the signals it produces and the associated wiring would suffice. later!

I'll ask a question, but...is this because it's throwing a code and you're troubleshooting it? Been there did that, even had Ford troubleshoot it.

Why I ask- mine was throwing the code and after forever of Ford troubleshooting (they ended up blaming my amps, some TSB about amps) it and changing the sensor it turned out being bad diodes in the alternator. I changed to the 200 amp alternotor and never got a code again. Any alternator would have done the trick.

Just a question and a thought for you.

actually im doing some research. the ignition system sucks on my car and im trying to find an alternative. my mom has one of these trucks and i noticed the cam sensor is driven off of an oil pump drive, and this method seems like it might be relatively easy to retrofit to my vehicle. thanks, later!

well the cam sensor just takes the place of the where the distributor would go. what car are you looking for an batter ignition system

chevy LT1, the Optispark distributor to be exact. this distributor has one four-wire connection: Distributor low reference signal, distributor ignition feed, high resolution signal, and low resolution signal. so i have to find a sensor i can retrofit that will produce reliable and compatible signals.

i want to eliminate this optispark and utilize a dedicated, self contained camshaft sensor to provide the signals for the PCM, then use either 4-two tower coils, or eight individual coils, thus eliminating the distributor. oh well, the search continues... later!
