Hello everyone. Great forum. I have a 1997 Explorer AWD that is shifting funny. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that it was shifting in and out of overdrive from 55 MPH and below. Now, it seems, when shifting from first to second, the RPM's will go to 3000 and above, I have to "punch it" to get it to shift to second. The same happens from second to third. At the same time, I am noticing my idle speed is higher, 1000 RPM's, sometimes above. My transmission code is "U". I am wondering if I may have a TPS not working properly. I do not get any check engine lights nor does my O/D light come on and flash.
I was told that the computer may have to be re-programmed.
I am at a loss. I thought about replacing the TPS, but, I really don't like to "just replace parts" if I can get away with it. Is there any way to test the TPS?
