I have 1997 Explorer 4.0 SOHV that after 3 month does not start. When I try to start for first time start fast then dies & when I try to start again does not start this is what I check to this moment:

1. Battery is good
2. The fuel is good and have good pressure between 35 to 40 psi.
3. I use a spare spark to see if have spark it working
4. the computer does not give any error.
5. I unplug the battery and plugin back but does not work

But this Explorer 4 month ago I start and working fine a drive if fine just because my work and travels past 3 or 4 month then begin all this problem I think is the fuel filter but the pressure is good ???

Any Idea???

Maybe check your battery cables for corrosion where they're stuffed into the battery terminals.

I clean up all connection to the battery and today I found when have the battery unplug for 20 hours and I plug back it start then dies, do not pass a second and shuts off it look something electric but I do not know.

How many miles on your fuel pump and fuel filter?

The fuel pump just have a year, I install last year and work fine!

No is a Motorcraft pumb, I like use Motorcraft parts.
If possible the problem is any rellay or electric issue because when a let the battery unplug for more the 20 hours and plug again It start and dies then if I try to start only started does not stay on.

Check the switch is fine, I let the battery un plug for 24hour then plugin back try to start but do the same start and die. I try to start again but the only do is crank an try to start but nothing.
Someone know what is the auxiliary box #1 and where I can find the relays?

Mine was doing the same thing. It was the upper oring on several injectors. Lost pressure too quickly so the fuel pump shuts off. Each time I restarted it, it would build pressure, run for a moment, drop pressure, shutdown. So look at the pressure when it dies.

sounds close to what my 5L was doing. read my thread. try disconnecting your MAF and see if it will start and idle with the MAF disconnected.

I would guess with 95% certainty its the air idle control switch /valve

I unplug the MAF but do the same problem countinue

You'd see or smell leaking gas wouldn't you?

If it's not the injectors like freak said then I'm guessing something in the idle control.
Check/clean the IAC.

I didn't smell it but my sense of smell is poor. I could see it when I got in there with a flashlight.

Good thing you didn't use a match.

I check all injector and there are not leak or smell of gas. I don't want to think is the PCM is bad it make me crazy, what can cause after 24hours without the battery plug then I plug the battery try to start. start fast then going off and when I try to start again just crank but does not start.

Last night I change the relay from the fuel pump and the PCM relay but nothing continue with the same problem, unplug the MAF to see if that is the problem an nothing and all this happened after let my explore for more the 4 month without turn on.

Dunno, but I like your English.

I think you should double check your fuel pressure. Monitor it the whole time throughout starting and the engine stopping. Have someone else start it so you can see the pressure.
