Update: I checked the switch on the master break cylinder with my fuse tester, so I know it has a circuit still and is not shorted out. So now the BOO switch? Maybe the throttle wire from the Switch on the Break Master Cylider? Anyone else have any experience with a similar situation?
Yes, its starts to get intermittent fail at the bigning then after some time its gone completely dead & cruse never get engage at all, as a quick check, unplug the switch check if you find brake fluid leaking in it ? if so then use a little piece of wire & short the 2 wire connector & test cruse drive, if its works fine then CHANGE the switch.
(I don’t have dash light equipped in truck)
UPDATE: It's not the Deactivator switch, or the BOO switch. When the break is pressed the Speed Cont. light goes off like normal. I'm starting to think that its the servo unit itself. I've been trying to find if it has a fuse or relay connected to it but cannot find anything in my schematics. I'm about ready to just yank it out and test for continuity.
i have a similar problem too, my 99 eb cruise control is 'disconected' according to the guy i bought it from. he said somethnig about it causing problems for the old owner, but i want it back. i checked all the fuses and nothing, however i did find a plug under the hood that is not attached and has tape over it, looks like it goes to the brake cylinder maybe? anyone have a picture of it? im stuck at work, cant get out there yet
This is the side panel of the servo. This little bugger actually pulls the throttle cable and holds it at the speed you set it (electronic cc systems only)
This is an underneath view of a connector that runs to the servo motor. Looks like I have a bad motor on my servo. That would explain why its not engaging while the dash light still comes on
This is an unplugged view of the deactivator switch.
This is a pic of the Deactivator switch. This tells the servo when the breaks are being pressed. If you don't have yours hooked up then your cruise control servo thinks the breaks are being pressed all the time and will not engage.
If you need the switch its a ford part only. Call a local dealer ship. Should be around 20 bucks
no problem. I've been searching for answers here for a few days now. It can get kinda crazy searching the forum, but if you can disect it all and apply it to what you have, then its a great source. I am not at all good with cars so that tells you how good this site is.
i couldnt agree more.
the only thing that sucks is right after i saw your reply, i went out and pluged it back in and used the speed control on the way home with no problems, but when i picked up my girlfriend earlier tonight, she noticed a funny smell, then i did too and it smells like a motor is burning, so i may be in the same boat as you soon. is it hard to replace that servo computer?
you might wanna look into the deactivator switch recall. Call a ford dealer and give them our vin #. Ask if its up for any recalls. I believe they'll install a new switch with a fuse in it. Oil/brake fluid could be leaking into the harness and could ignite. I would leave it unplugged till you called the dealer. The switch is hooked up constantly to 12v power i think. Don't wanna end up with a charred piece of metal.
Oh and the servo is 250 from dealer. I got mine on ebay for 28 bucks. 97-01 year models should be interchangeable. I'll find out when my 99 servo is delivered next week. But as far as pulling it and installing the new one, its 3 bolts and a pin that holds the throttle wire. REALLY simple
Replaced Servo Module with part from '99. Still no go on the cruise control. Speed Cont light comes on. Leads me to believe BOO and Deactivator Switch both work. Could be stuck "coast" switch on the steering wheel? How can you tell if a servo module is good?
