1997 mountineer problems trouble shoot

i had my car idle running and it just died tryed starting it no start so i left it went back a hour latter it started drove it had no power and died after a mile then started it again and after2 mins about a half of mile down the road if that it died again i think its the fuel pump but not sure someone help?

Are you getting a CEL? If so having the codes read would be a good start... Autozone will do it for free. That would be the place to start troubleshooting.

Every time I've had fuel pump issues it's dead, no start no go. My inclination is that it's something else.

If you have the SOHC V6 I suggest: Ford Explorer Ranger Fuel pressure test procedure

97 mountaineer 5.0 owner 9 years. cluster light out???

owner of a 5.0 1997 mercury mountaineer love it own it for 9 years now. need help on my instrument cluster lights went all out and also the ac control works but not the lights and all the power window lights don't light up no more! all went out. everything works on head light, radio lights,map lights,all dome lights,the back of the rear console do light up,the door lights work, instrument cluster all the gauges work and the other lights from engine check the belts abs,signal,and all the indicator lights light up. only the the lights that light up the gauges are all out. they where working couple days ago and now i am been looking for a good ford or mercury diagram wiring for this problem. i checked all fuse look good tested each one. i am at lost and need to know all the wiring,relay connect to any instrument lights. dose any one know is there any other fuse,relay,hiding in the suv i can check? need help before i fork out money i don't have i don't want to pay someone else to solve it. any help or free diagram map on this. this truck is a part of our family still runs strong very well maintain clean. any help on this issue thank you email me at wrrodriguez63@gmail.com

How did it run when it started?

It could be a lot of things (besides fuel related). Most sensors would throw a code. You don't have a check engine light? No stored codes? If you do, that's where to start.

Other than that, 2000StreetRod will be able to tell you the proper diagnostic path.
