1997 Rear Window Tinting Question... how to: link included

wasn't sure where to post this thread. so sorry if it is the wrong spot.

Ok, i bought a pre-cut tint kit from ebay. i have most of the windows tinted already. i still need to do the front windows and the Rear window. its coming along nicely so far tho.

My question is, with the Rear defrost on the window, how do i apply the tint? straight over them strips? or is there something special i have to do to apply the rear tint? i want to make sure i do it right.

thanks for any advice/comments.

EDIT....
Here is a how to link the company provided me today.

ok well i always thought that you couldnt tint over the strips for some reason. but after watching countless youtube vids their all tinting over them. so i guess i was wrong.

on to tinting the rest.

Just do yourself a favor- try them first. If you have some that do not work, get some conductor gap filler, the dealer sells it I know, it connects the missing pieces fo the wires so they work. Then tint, and since the tint tends to hold the heat "in" more, the defrost works even faster than without tint.

I would suggest that for 4 small bolts, and popping the window lift struts, remove the rear window, and you can do it on a bench- much easier than working over your head.

Good luck!

thanks joe.

i did take the back window off to tint it (figured it would be easiest) well needless to say i have to re-order another back piece and the driver front window. for some reason i just could not work well with the contour of the back window. next time i am just going to leave the window in as i seem to do fine like that. so we'll see in 2 days. the driver side front window was a boo-boo. i thought i grabbed the window tint i needed (back rear cargo) and w/out double checking it ended up being the wrong one and it got ruined needless to say.

i will post some good pictures once i get the other 2 pieces and wash her up.

Sounds like the tint didn't like to work the contour very well? And there really isn't much there... Use a heatgun on the exterior of the glass to warm up the tint while you work it, keep the tint wet on the outside while you squeegee it. Looks good so far!

thanks again Joe.

yeah im not sure why i had a problem with the rear glass. i got another piece on its way so hopefully it'll go smooth this time. user error for sure. the tint piece lined up perfect on test fits. i had it soaking wet on the inside and outside of the tint while trying to install it.

but a little good news, i got my other front driver side window tint in today and got it on. came out good.

here is a few pics ( cell phone again :( ).
