let off the gas it dose a grrrrrrrrrrr and feels like netural push on the gas back to normal
I tracked it down to the slider that goes from hi to low range it get's sloppy big bucks pull the case they have very tight bolts split the case there's a fork that slides this range selector "dog" clutch. (it's like the forward reverse "dog" in a outboard motor) get rid of the fork, cut or brake it off. slide the "dog" all the way foreword while pulling on the shaft I got help I stuffed a lot of wet rags in and around then I put a small weld on the shaft so the "dog" cant disingage it will stay in hi range. you might want to have a tranny man put it back together there are some little ball that have to get in the right place. now the good part. I gave my wife the keys "IT WAS MY FAULT BABY, IT ALL FIXED NOW" SHE GAVE ME MY ALLOWANCE AND I WENT BACK TO WORK ON "HER" 57 RANCHERO. ! 91 EFI HO 5.0 AOD Tbird IRS powder blue ele. mirriors & windows a.c I'll never buy a modern ford .,.,.,JY JIM .,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.WRENCHING 50 YR'S

JYJim,

If you had done a little research on the issue, you'd find that the problem is well-known and easily repairable. Omega Machine sells all the components you need to make it like new. The problem is caused by the bores for the shift rail being oblong over time. Replacing the case-halves or having yours bushed is all it takes to repair it.

As for your repair, I suspect that, over time, the weld will wear off the shaft, and instead of merely grinding, the gears could get thrown all the way into low range on deceleration, and that wouldn't be pretty.
