Hello!

I just picked up a 98 AWD Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer with 120K miles in excellent condition. It does have a few problems I'd like to fix though. The first problem on the chopping block is this.

When the tranny is cold it seems to have a tough time shifting from 2nd to 3rd. I generally have to throttle back to get the shift to happen. It'll often skip 2nd and go straight to 4th when I do that. It happens once in a while when warm, but it mainly occurs during the first mile of "waking up in the morning."

I had a 91 Ford Escort that had a similar problem. It turned out it had a bad 2-3 shift solenoid. Replacing it was much easier than I thought. Any chance that might be the problem here? Are there problem codes just for the transmission that may be stored separately from the other engine codes?

Thanks!
