This happened maybe once a month over a course of four months, lately now that it has been getting colder and rainy it happens every single time the vehicle sits for a few hours and started. It doesn't seem to be affecting anything, but I am curious as to what it is exactly and if it's going to cause something to crap out at some point!

That is a weird noise. Doesn't sound healthy.

Can you get someone else to crank it while you lay beside the car and try to isolate where it's coming from?

sounds like it has something to do with the starter... maybe the starter is on its way out

Sounds to me like the starter not disengaging from the flywheel immediately. Pull the starter and check if the bendix (the grooved part the gear rides on) is dry.

could be belt slippage

Or a bearing on the alty, a/c, ps or tensioner.

Def sounds like starter to me. Have someone else start the truck and listen under the there to try to pin point it.
