I have a 1998 Mountaineer v8 AWD. There is a bad grinding sound in the right rear side when turning hard right while its hot. It has happened about 2 times right when I get off the interstate from a 1 hr 30 min drive. It is only apparent on hard right turns while going slow just after getting off the interstate. But it goes away after I let the car cool down for about an hour or two. It is worst when : In reverse cutting hard right (applying weight/pressure on right wheel). This makes me think its a wheel bearing but I'm not sure.

A few people have told be that my right rear hub or axle shaft bearing could be the culprit. Another friend also said it cold be my rear diff. clutch packs.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all.

Well...
As of today my ABS Light has turned on on the dashboard. This makes me think the problem could be the rear wheel bearing assembly.

Are you sure it is the right rear? If you are backing up, turning hard right, that is what you said, then you are loading the left rear wheel. Any way, jack it up, spin tbe wheel, listen for noise, shake wheel up and down, front and rear, any excess play. Notice any oil on the inside of tire/ wheel?
