1999 2door explorer 4wd trans question

Hello everyone...got a chance to buy a decent looking 2 dr 1999 explorer...cant provide engine or trans details actually til maybe tomorrow...question i have is gent said runs like new...went into town stopped, went in store and came out,someone parked in front of him...put in reverse and heard a "clink"..and now no reverse...states he has 1st and other forward gears...thought i read if reverse band,1st gear also gone?

reverse band is prob broken. you will still have all forward gears if the band broke. once the trans is out, and on the bench your looking at maybe a 2 hour job to do it. i have never dug into a trans before and i did one about a year ago and it wasnt bad to do as long as you have some knowledge
