1999 Explorer Sport
New to the forum here,

I have a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport which I have owned since 46k miles. I sublet it to someone and have now gotten it back with 160k miles. There is a rod knock in the engine, no drop of oil pressure. The bearings are terribly worn and am in the process of changing them out right now. I have changed the coolant and thermostat and pcv and air filters so far. I am planning to drain the converter and pan of the auto trans and change the filter, change fuel filter and the spark plugs. Is there anything else that should be changed on a car with this mileage??? I am also going to check the wheel bearings for the front and replace if need be. I am looking for the center armrest/console, face plate for the radio and the covers for the sides of the seats preferably in grey. Also anyone who knows how the door lock mechanism works on the driver side door would be greatly appreciated. Seems it is jamming. I cannot seem to remove the whole mechanism to inspect it.

Sorry for the long post, my truck has been very badly abused and I just want it back to top condition again. I know these awesome trucks can get up around 400k with the right maintenance!!!

I would give the engine a sea foam treatment. If it has 4-wheel drive I'd change the fluid in the transfer case.

As for the door lock, I ended up taking mine to dealer to get the latch replaced. I couldn't figure out how to take it apart with the limited access behind the door panel.

How much did it end up costing you roughly to get the door latch replaced at the dealer?

It was $250 or so, about what others have mentioned on here before.

When you are looking at the bearings check all the shocks, ball joints and tie rod ends as well. If they haven't been changed yet it will be time now.
