I have a 1999 explorer sport as stated in the title but everymorning when i go out to start my car for one reason or another my oil pressure gauge reads nothing and my dash reads check gauges but only does that when the engines cold like first thing in the morning i ussally end up starting the car let it run for 2-3 seconds then shut it off i usally end up ding that 2-3 times wait about 60 seconds then start up and ill have ok oil pressure but not great but once the engine warms up i dont have any problems at all ill have great oil pressure i can shut it off wait 5 hours and go out and it will still start with no problems at all i havnt had much time to really look into this issue as i dont have much time working basicly 2 full time jobs i was thinging about installing a aftermarket oil pressure gauge but would like some in put first

I realize this is an old post but it deserves a reply/fix.
It is likely the oil sending unit. It is about half way up the block on the front left side. Take off the left front tire and move the rubber flat piece out of the way to get a straight shot at it. You will need a special socket to remove the sending unit and be careful removing the stubborn wire connector.
This repair fixed mine and I had the same symptoms.
