I have a 1999 Pearl white Limited Explorer. I have 20" Rims now and im tired of it. I want the 4" Superlift. I know its around $1500 bucks, so that didnt scare me away. Anyways, I need to know what is the perfect size tire for this application? Keep in mind the Limited X has the larger fender flares. Also, this will be a pretty boy truck, with little off road use. (At least im honest). So clearance, and other offroad issues wont worry me.

Let me know what you guys think? Its a 4.0L SOHC and is AUTOMATIC.

PS I read Some of the Other Stickys but they all address 15" rims. I would like a 16" Rim. Seems it would like nicer.

Also Any Pics of Vehicles Similar to What I am looking for would be more then appreciated!

for the 4" superlift you should run 32" tires, u might be able to fit 33's if ur lucky with trimming, ive got some pics of the kit on my site in my signature. Are you 4wd, if not then dont get the kit because you dont need drop brackets (no front axle). let me know if you need any other information

You should be able to run 33s easy. I run 32s with a 2" lift.

Superlift says use 33's

If I ran that kit, I'd be running 34s at least.

I've got 35s, but a Sport Trac has larger wheel openings, so less trimming. 35s look a hell of a lot meaner though :D

If you're gonna keep your factory gears though, I wouldn't go any bigger then a 33. Big tires and stock gears suck!! :p

it will all just depend on his torsion bars tho, some will get four inches out of it and some wont, and dont forget cougarx youve got an additional 2 inches of TT for the 35s to fit, so its prolly gunna be 33s

you're not too familiar with this kit, are you. :D

uuhhmm, i am currently running this kit right now

ive got the kit too and i wouldnt reccomned anything above a 33 with just the 4"s of lift. especially with the point cougarx made with the gears. Ill be the first to tell you big tires and stock gears suck bad!!!!!get you some nice 33's and call it a day!!

with 4.10s it wouldn't be bad

Thanks so far...one more question

Thanks for the input so far. Looks like 33" tires are the way to go. I found a guy here in Denver that has the kit used for $500! So that seem slike a decent deal. No shocks, or Grade 8 Bolts though...Bummer.. So does it matter if I run 33" Tires on 16" rims, im assuming it is just less tire more rim...
THanks

33's with 4.10 gears would be good, my 35's with 4.10 gears wouldnt be much better than stock

My Goal Is Nearly Reached!

Ok so far this is what I got:

I just found out that I have the d2 code for the rear axle meaning 4.10's and Limited Slip from the factory! great news...

*Superlift Kit 4" New $1519 local Pick up (Good DEAL) Or will ship for $65

*33x12.50x15 Pro comp Mud Terrains with Pro Comp 1059 Series Wheels $950 Shipped 3.75 backspace.

Now I just need the install. I have a question. The above Rims are 15x8's. Is that a good size to use with a 12.50 tire? It seems like a mismatch? also what about the 3.75 backspacing that these rims say they have. Wont look to far out or to far in correct?

Also, any one in the Denver CO area that can install, or know a reasonable place to install?

I almost reached my goal of having all new parts Wheels Tires and install for $3000! im going to go over a bit on the install i know, but I was close.

I ran 33's easily with my SOHC and 4.10 gears but once I went to 35's that pushed it over the edge. Way over the edge.

I still had 4.10s when Ashli and I drove from SC across the country to run the Rubicon in CA back in 2003 and it absolutely sucked and was very hard on the tranny. It searched and shifted on every single little hill and didn't have the power to stay on O/D unless we were on level ground. I was forced to play with shifting and manually choosing to go in and out of O/D constantly as we drove across the country. I see you are from Denver: going across the Rockies on that trip you'd have thought I was hauling a trailer it sapped our power so bad we couldn't maintain highway speeds. I cannot overstate how much (negative) difference going up just those 2 inches in tire diameter made.

In addition over the past three years and three sets of 35's I've learned that keeping them balanced is a heckuva lot harder than 33's and my Explorer has lost almost all of its stock highway feel and smoothness; something that didn't happen while I was still on 33's.

I was committed to remaining as stock as I could and adamant about not spending extra money on regearing, but going to 35's made it bad enough to force me to do it. I went to 4.88 and couldn't be happier now. You state that you're not really going to use it much offroad; stick with 33's and it will still look great and do fine for you. On 16" rims you'd be looking at 285/75r16 (or Goodrich also makes their AT kos in a slightly larger 295/75r16).

Know any reasonable shops that arent so fancy that would install the package I listed above? Seems fairly straight forward, well after reading for hours on end about how to do it.
