1999 Ford Ranger 4.0 4x4
Hey all,
I am doing the 3-22-10 TSB, and am a bit muddled up in which separator plate gasket to use. The chart in Glacier999's wonderful thread lists two that are compatible with the 4x4 4.0 Ranger: 1L5Z-7Z490-FA and 1L5Z-7Z490-HA

Is there any difference? I've already got the HA plate, but know that a difference could damage the transmission more. Thanks!

Check out this 03-22-10 TSB There is a transmission application column that might me helpful.

The 1L5Z-7Z490-HA is for these applications: 98GT-AA/BA; XL2P- CA/DA.
XL2P-7000-CA = Automatic Transmission Assy SOHC - 4x2, Trans. Type: 5R55E
XL2P-7000-DA = Automatic Transmission Assy SOHC - 4x4, Trans. Type: 5R55E

The 1L5Z-7Z490-FA is for 98GT-KB/LB;XL5P-DA/EA/FA
XL5P-7000-DA = Automatic Transmission Assy OHV - 4x2, Trans. Type: 5R55E
XL5P-7000-EA = Automatic Transmission Assy OHV - 4x4, Trans. Type: 5R55E

Do you know which transmission assembly you have? Try going to one of the online ford parts dealers, enter your vin and then the part number for each of the separator gaskets and see which one shows as fitting your vehicle.

Ok- update...
Fordparts.com shows all 7Z490 gaskets for my VIN; and cancelled my order for the 7Z490-FA, so that one must be out of stock.

I found a stamp on the side of my trans case (P97GT-7006-BBR) but that seems to just be the part number for the case and not the whole assembly. Any idea where they may leave any idea on which PN the whole trans is?
