1954 F100 short bed body onto a 1999 Ranger short bed Chassis

@CDW6212R It came off of a 1994 Mustang. I saw the car. They have had the engine rebuilt and they are putting a Holley 600 cfm vacumn secondaries carburetor on it with a simple distributor with Pertronix in it.
The part number on the bottom of the upper has S as the 3rd digit. Ford has used S for decades to mean Thunderbird. The picture below
is the under hood of a 1991 Thunderbird for sale. That all being said, the 1994 and 1995 Mustang upper plenums were first used on the
1991 5.0 Thunderbirds.

Ah, thanks, that explains the curved intake, to clear those shock towers. I'd put that with the 302 HO intake, fairly small, good for mild and low end torque, not so good for rpm or power.

@CDW6212R It will work for me for now. I'm not trying to build an 8 second in an 1/8th of a mile @ 88 mph machine. This vehicle will be a Sonic cruiser and will see Interstate time like "Cruising the Coast" events. What do they call the fall gathering at Pidgeon Forge and Gatlinburg? I would never go 88 mph on a public street. Save that for the track with guardrails.
Crusin' the Coast 2024

It will work great for all of that. Pigeon Forge has tons of car shows during the Spring/Summer/Fall, I haven't really remembered many by name. My mail route begins with the Convention Center as my first delivery. They had a car show there yesterday, I go into the parking lot traffic for a couple of minutes. Then I'm out and off to the whole section along Old Knoxville Hwy, the golf course has lots of homes and tons of rental cabins etc.

A few more parts have arrived for 5.0 #2. It is for the 54F100/99Ranger project. The original plan was to use the 97MM power-train. Not now.
The Mountaineer will be staying together.
I bought a new pulley/damper/sensor ring for the '94 Mustang engine that will go into the truck project. It will also be converted to coil-near-plug.

I found someone making a1.5" plastic intake spacer. We will see how the plastic spacer holds up.
The bolt kit only has two out of 4 bolts that will work. I have the bolts leftover form the Mountaineer upper plenum that got replaced
when its 1" spacer went on. They will need shortened about 3/8" to fit the 1994 Mustang ('91 Tbird style) intake assembly.

I was able to get the throttle body however there is going to be a bit of a fitment problem. Below is a picture of the 1994 mustang upper plenum flange. It has a rectangular shape to it. The Explorer throttle body flange area is more square.
1994 mustang upper plenum flange.JPG

But it is bigger than the flange.

I need to make a spacer out of 1" thick aluminum.

Are there any machinists on this forum that could make a 2.55" hole through it?

I can get a hole in that sucker
You would have to send it to me and I’ll have my buddy cut it out on his table

Ok. After I get a new '94 Mustang gasket to get the design finalized, I'll get with you.

Aluminum in hand.
aluminum plate 02.jpg

Throttle body gaskets stacked to pick the spot for the 65mm hole to go through. 94 mustang gasket is a hair crooked. 65mm is the size
of the 99 Explorer throttle body and the limitation of the '94 intake. Mustang had 58mm throttle body. 65mm is 12% larger.
1994 mustang throttle body spacer 02.jpg

The next step is to plot the 1/4 20 threaded holes for the adapter spacer to bolt to the '94 Mustang flange.

Mounting studs will happen before the 65mm hole is plotted for the last time.

March 25th was the last time that I had a few minutes to work on the 54F100/99Ranger SB 2wd coil spring project. I had to source a piece of aluminum to make an adapter plate to adapt the Ex/MM 5.0 throttle body to the 91 Thunderbird type intake. I will soon be back to this task and send off the plate to have a hole made in it. Our local Fab Shop doesn't have a water-jet style cutting apparatus. (I don't know what to call it).
Today 10-11-24, I drove the Ranger from its dry storage place back to the shop property. I have a few fall Saturdays that I can finally do the final "cut down" of the Ranger body. These cuts will need to be well thought out and more precise than blind hacking. The 54 cab is in the line to be media blasted. Her are a couple of pictures of the Ranger today 110355 miles. I have put 80 miles on it since 2009.
After the 5 mile trip here, the O/D light was blinking and when I mashed the OD button, nothing that I did made it come on or go off.
What is going on with it?
I need to get all the little issues worked out before this power-train goes into the 1987 Aerostar shorty cargo/conversion van.

A few weeks ago, I started working on a parts list for 5.0 #2, the 5.0 going in the coil spring Ranger. The original plan was to make the coil near plug 5.0 work in the '97 MM but after all of the work that has had to be done to it, I decided to keep the vehicle intact. I have a lead on a second 5.0 for this '54 project and below is a list of what I have, and what I need to get. This is just engine related. I think @Josh P Josh has a 5.0 4R70W case that I may can get and I have a '96 4R70W that I have to get the guts out of it. That is a separate segment of this greater project.
54 shopping list
I have collected up several parts for 5.0 #2. I had been talking 5.0s with Jamie and a couple of other people. To avoid confusion, I numbered the
5.0s. 5.0 #2 is going to be the one for this project. When I started the '97 MM 5.0 C-N-P project, the plan was to eventually pull the drivetrain out of the MM to use in the '54F100/99Ranger (chassis) project. Now I'm assembling a separate powertrain for it.
-PARTS ON HAND:
I have a 90s long block
all of the front dress off of a 1998 Explorer/Mountaineer
new timing cover
new hb/pulley/tone ring assembly
new FoMoCo crankshaft position sensor
used 2 wire camshaft position sensor
engine brackets
new motor mounts
98 Explorer and 68 Bronco small block oil pans. (Coil spring crossmember would have to be notched, maybe with the Bronco pan too)
Advance Adapters remote oil filter kit
used extra transmission cooler to add when doing radiator trans cooling option
91 Thunderbird upper and lower intake
Unknown aftermarket cold air intake and unknown MAFs. (NEEDED: 1997 round filter MAF combo)
1.5" printed intake spacer
1999 Explorer throttle body
custom 1" aluminum tb/intake adapter, (If I was doing this again, I would use 1.5" thick aluminum)
99 fuel rails, Explorer
SS braided line for -8 an fittings
coil brackets stand offs
1999 Crown Vic powertrain harness partially flipped to move PCM to pass side (US)
2003 Ford full size luxury pcm
-PARTS STILL NEEDED:
I still need one drivers side valve cover (at least 1997-2001 Explorer, possibly Mustang and F-150 has plain black steel cover too)
aluminum c-n-p brackets
2020 7.3 gas "Godzilla" coils, FoMoCo
Tons 9" wire set
Ballenger coil connector pigtails
4R70W for a 5.0 (needs J mod and 1999 Explorer DTRS and connector)
4R70W shifter cable-application in question, something that will work with modified 3-speed column shifter
Master transmission parts kit plus upgrades
Engine gasket set, Felpro
Standard rings, rod bearings, main bearings
late 90's Ford diesel oil pan dipstick tube adapter and stick
replacement injector pig tails (old ones cracked)
injectors for a 1999 5.0 or different (something to go with the 2003 pcm)
1/2"npt bung for oil fill
o2 bungs
an - 8 an fittings for fuel line
Ford spring lock? QD to an adapter for fuel supply line and fuel rail
AEM wideband AFR gauge and o2 sensor set.
new alternator
new water pump and rubber hoses
2 budget catalytic convertors
1 2.5" 2 in, 2 out Flowmaster muffler
new 1999 Explorer starter
Dakota Digital tachometer adapter
I'm sure that there are many loose parts not listed either needed or already obtained.
Wondering what to do about exhaust manifolds/headers.
More later.

I have in my list that I need a second driver's side valve cover for the c-n-p conversion. I actually need 2. One for 5.0 #2 which is this one and 5.0 #3 for when it gets transplanted into a 1965 Mustang Fastback 3+2 project. Here is a picture of a '95 Mustang driver's side valve cover. The Explorer cover looks the same except it has brackets that hold the fuel rail/s on top of the cover. I removed the brackets from the '97MM cover. Where they were doesn't show when the aluminum c-n-p brackets are hovering above the cover. So if anyone has a spare cover leftover from a donor 5.0 engine swap, please direct message me. The 5.0 for this truck project will be being assembled this winter. The 5.0 conversion on the Ranger chassis won't happen right away, a 3.0 will have to be installed in an '87 Aerostar first. There is some interconnection with my multiple projects.

Have you worked out the 5.0 mounting into the 3.0 coil spring ranger?

I’m putting 302 into 02 3.0 coil spring ranger rwd right now. We are dropping the drivers spring so we can get the old 3.0 mount and spacer out: I’m planning to install 5.0 motor mounts instead

I've been studying that part of it. It is a bit wonky how the 3.0 staggered mounts are designed. I'll be running just behind you on the 5.0 conversion. The driver's side mount on the engine (engine bracket) is sitting up quite a bit more from the passenger side. I'll be using the rubber mounts from the 5.0 Explorer along with the motor plates from you. Is the driver's side spacer bracket on the 98 up 3.0 Ranger welded in?
I figured getting the 5.0 block without the oil pan mounted correctly, then deal with crossmember mods to make a pan fit. Take a look at the 1968 Bronco V-8 pan. Pictures on E-bay and google I'm sure. I'll go snag a Bronco pan picture and add here.

No the drivers side mount spacer is bolted in
Have to drop coil spring to get to it

Likely have to drop both springs to bolt in new mounts. I read that I gotta drill one hole in the engine cradle for the 4.0 rwd mounts.. then my brain starts working. If I can run 4.0
Mounts then I can run 5.0 Mounts, they both are designed to Bolt to the same engine cradle. FYI coil spring rangers never came with the sohc I don’t think

I changed the picture from this morning of the '68 Bronco pan. It might work. I wish that I knew someone that owned an old bronco to look at. l know that whatever has to be done to the crossmember, notching etc., steel plate will need to be welded back in.
68bronco 302 pan 02.JPG

No notching or anything is needed
Just drill a hole or two

@410Fortune Oh good. Maybe not even with my .85" (17/20" )forward movement that the power-train needs so that the engine needs to clear the '54 F100 firewall?

Today is the first time that I have walked around under the 110K+ 1999 Ranger 3.0 shorty/ 1954 F-100 project.
Picture from around the middle. Not too greasy.

I guess that this is an 8.8. Drum brake though.

2wd Rangers have coil spring front ends.
99ran 12-14-24 bottom 03.jpg

A joint in the frame. Is this where different front frame snouts get attached? Short bed, long bed, extended cab, extended cab long bed?

The leaf springs are over the axle in these Rangers.
