My little brother just bought a 1991 XLT and it is really a pretty clean truck w only 102,000 on it. Anyways long story short he was out wheelin while camping and found a pot hole in the dirt road disguised as a puddle, the tire hit pretty good and they drove on. Then not long after the power steering quit working, got to looking and the seal around the output shaft to the pitman arm was blown and leaking wicked bad. It sat for the night and he drove home, 4-5 miles. Now we put a new steering box on and now it doesn't act like it even wants to try to assist. No power steering still, jacked it up and turned back and forth a ton, got it to take about a quart. Still no assist. Doesn't load the engine like the pump is being loaded or anything. Thought air in the lines but after seamed like forever turning back and forth still nothing. Pump fried in that short of time? He said no growling or noise at all ever from the pump. Its on 31's so impossible just about to turn without power steering. Anyways, any insight on these systems would be great. Mine is a 2nd gen and it bleed itself in just like ten turns back and forth when its fluid was changed. Dont know if the first gens have hard times bleeding themselves of air or something. Any help would be awesome! Thanks!

Thanks just thought I'd get more of a viewing in the other section. BTW it fried the pump in only a few miles, so thats what the problem was!
