Finally I was able to buy a used JVC KW-NT700 (just realized that JVC and Kenwood merged) for $100 from a friend who yanked it out from his mustang. I just bought the missing GPS antenna and bluetooth mic from ebay. Also bought the cheap wiring adapters from ebay (includes the trim/housing!) Installation is very straight forward.

Didn't realize how crappy the old system was when I replaced it with this new unit. There are still things left to do;
- speed sensor wasn't connected yet, it shows an error but the nav still works (just nags you that it not sensing a pulse) I have to connect the wire to the grey/black wire on that 3rd plug.
- GPS antenna error - the GPS works but shows an error about it not connected, i suspect that this ebay aftermarket is busted and the unit is not able to detect it properly.
- rear view camera, run out of wires for the reverse light and daylight too. will continue work this weekend.

I didn't install the steering wheel adapters since I don't really use the controls that much. If I have to I will use the Metra Axess SWI which is plug and play. It connects to the yellow/black wire on that 3rd plug (which also has the speed sensor wire)

Awesome :)

Who provides the nav maps for JVC? I know with Kenwood, it's Garmin (I had a Kenwood unit in my Mustang a few years ago...till it got stolen). Just wondering if that's the case with JVC since they're now under Kenwood.

If it is indeed the cheap aftermarket pieces causing the errors, I'd recommend getting the real deal.

I got everything installed but a working GPS antenna.
If you're used to Waze, Google Maps or Apple Maps the nav software on this unit is terrible (nav recalculation is not that smart compared to our phone apps) Luckily I didn't invest so much on this unit. I think this holds true for most of the Kenwood 2 din nav units.
Made a trip to Warrensburg which is 120 miles from home with nav guidance working (even when the antenna is not connected) Reverse camera works, it doesn't have those infrared stuff at night but the reverse light is enough to illuminate it in color. With the GPS antenna not working, the time displayed is also a hit and miss thing (sometimes it will update the correct time and sometimes just starts at 6pm on every startup) This unit doesn't have the manual adjustment for time, it somehow gets it from the GPS signal.
Once the speed sensor is connected the volume compensation feature and GPS nav works perfectly.

overall happy with the unit despite its flaws, so many features and customization options, made my mounty looking expensive again.

Looks good Link. Have you any tips or info on routing the wiring for the back up camera? I still need to put mine in and it looks rather difficult.

I run the wires via the headliner towards the windshield pillar and into the dashboard.

from the liftgate, there are 4 screws that holds the plastic panel that covers the handle for the liftgate glass. Once removed there's a rubber grommet (for the license plates lights and liftgate glass switch) where you can fish the camera wires into the inside of your lift gate going up to the rubber grommet where all the wires go into the body. From there I have to remove the trim going into tail lights and tap the reverse light power. I have to run the video signal on the headliner since removing the upper pillar trims are easier than the floor panels (good decision because the length of the video cable is just enough to reach the head unit, if I went down via the floor it will not reach)
for the driver side pillar trim I didn't remove it completely, I just pry it open just to fish the wire in and out on both sides. I also have to remove the upper weather stripping which is easy since you just have to pull it out and push it back in.
