Doing some engine work, I saw what I believe to be te FPR, near the upper manifiold pass. side, would it have a plastic housing/clasp that goes around it? Mine was half broke off and when I touched it it came off and the plastics broke, my question is, will it be okay without the plastic housing?

Second, when I engage my 91 ex into reverse, a loud clunk happens as it engages. (sounds like someone hitting metal with a hammer sort of) It is totally fine once this one loud clunk happens, but others in the truck usually ask what the hell is that. Any ideas?

I have been chasing down a high idle for over a year. Long story short, I have replaced every sensor from maf, iac, 02, act, tps, coolant temp. sensor. Always resetting my computer after. No dice, also, no vacuum leaks, good PCV valve, shop couldnt find anything. My question is, could a bad or going bad fuel pump or FPR cause an erratic high idle, and also sometimes in the cold, a low idle to a die. When it is in park or neutral it usually goes to 1500 RPMs. Driving is okay, your help is appreciated guys, thanks. And yes I have been searching the site for months... :salute:

have you cleaned the IAC? or tested to see if it sticking at all?
how do the injectors look?

If your FPR is bad and the vacuum is sucking in extra fuel....that would cause some very erratic idle issues depending on how much fuel is being sucked into the intake. the loud clunk could be from a bad u-joint on your drive shaft. Have you replaced the u-joints yet? The noise you are describing sounds like that could be the culprit. There are other possibilties as well but that would be the easiest to check.

the IAC is new, motorcraft, and yes it has been cleaned very recently.

The U joints on the drive shaft...I will check that out and maybe lube it, thanks, that makes me feel a bit better knowing it might not be the tranny. also, it has been vibrating my truck pretty bad around 40-50 mph...thanks I will check the driveshaft tom.
