More advice please

a) What tyre pressures would you recommend for everyday on road use. No towing or heavy loads involved

b) Where is the clock?!! The car has a double din radio cassette which can display the time for a few seconds but I'm sure there must be something else somewhere!

Thanks again

Keith

There isn't a clock... There's a really useful (not) compass and thermometer but no clock. If it's the original double DIN radio then it is possible to set it to display the time constantly. Various models of radio may have been fitted over the years - reply with the model number of yours and I'll see if the info is in the Audio Guide (which should be in the book pack along with the drivers handbook and service log). However, the time / date might only be displayed when tuned in to a FM station with RDS service...

Thanks all - shyto have just sent email direct

Can't you tell I dont have the manual!!

If it isn't the original Explorer radio I'm not sure if it is possible to display the time constantly. I had a Mondeo style in-dash 6 CD player in my old Ex and I could never get it to display the time. The standard radio/cass did. I'll check out the audio guide and reply to your email in due course...

Cheers,
Simon H

Thank god for that - I thought I was going nuts!!
I spent an hour when I first got mine looking for a clock!!
Even my crappy old frontera that I part ex'ed had a clock - true it looked like the guts of a 1980 digital watch but still!
Its hard to believe a car made in 2000 doesnt feature a clock somewhere.
I have the 1.5 din(?) stereo that will only show the time for a few seconds.

Got the model 7000 RDS-EON unit in our Ex - never displays the time no matter what station it's turned to.

Right now we're thinking of looking in Halfords for a cheap stick-on one to fit on the dash somewhere as it is a right PITA not having a time display.

Apart from the diabolical fuel consumption it's the only complaint we have about the Ex!! :) :)

On the 7000 RDS-EON I'm fairly sure the display can be switched between 'frequency' or 'time'. It's in the menus somewhere. There are 2 lots of menus. A short press on the button lets you scroll through one lot. A long press on the button reveals another lot. Somewhere in there you should find 'DISPLAY'. I think you use the tune up/down buttons to toggle between 'freq' and 'time'. Summat like that, anyway!

to overcome this problem i installed the dash fascia from an older model. I was using an after market radio so only needed the one slot. The older model fascia has a clock on it, however after fitting it i have found that i do not have the wire needed to power it which is a real pain lol. So i have the clock but with no power to it. Could run a splice from the radio if i had the connector for the back lol

Cheers Simon - problem is that it never has a time on the display i.e. it won't pick up a time signal - period. Usually got either Magic FM or Radio 2 on but have tried Capital, Classic FM etc. - no joy.

Where's the clock and fuel consumption

Had the same problem when I got mine. I've never needed a compass (maybe the "Explorer" bit was taken too literally in its design) but always need a clock. Ended up with a stick on one but I always seem to need it in the dark and have to prod for a tiny button to make it light up, for a second or two. I even looked
on E Bay for one of the electrical ones you could get for a while before every car had one. I could only find round ones for in dash fitting out of 60's cars. They look wrong and no-where to fit. Problem unresolved and radio/cd Mondeo style (with instructions) does not appear to give time.

Do i have the lowest fuel consumption? 3 miles to station and 3 back with steep hills (up and down of course) gets 12mpg. Bringing it back from Cornwall at motorway speeds it was 20mpg

My explorer has a digital clock above the radio, beside the word explorer written in plastic.

Late 98' and younger have the rds7000 radio which is 1.5 din so no panel and no clock. :D
