Autozone sells lift shackled for trucks/cars for about $20. They hsould give about 1.5 - 1.75 inches of lift. If anyone's intrested in knowing... (Personally I think it beats paying $50 for shackles - but hey, the might be peices of sh*t!!)
I WANT TO KNOW WHAT SHACKLES ARE AND HOW DIFFICULT ARE THEY TO INSTALL? I WANT TO LIFT MY TRUCK BUT FOR NOW AN INCH OR TWO WILL DO. IF INDEED THEY ARE SIMPLE THEN CAN SOMEONE WALK ME THROUGH THE PROCESS?
1. Call 1-800-528-3402. Tell them that you want the Warrior shackles for your Explorer. They will cost about $55 with shipping.
2. The shackles are the things at the rear of your explorer. You will have to crawl under to see them. They are black and H shaped. There are 2 of them. Once you get the Warrior shackles you should be able to find the stock ones because you will know what they look like. The warriors are about 3" longer than the stock shackles and they are steal. This will raise the rear of your explorer 1.5".
3. To put the shackles on, I am not 100% sure how because I just had a body shop do it. But I did watch them do it and looked very simple. I just didnt have a jack with jackstands so didnt want to mess with doing it my self.
4. After the shackles are on your explorer will be slanted because your rear will be 1.5" taller.
5. Crawl under your explorer near the front but closer to the middle. It is hard for me to describe these and took me a while to find. They are very obvious however once you know where they are. Do a search about locating the TORSION BOLTS.
6. Once you find the 2 bolts (one of the left one on the right side) you will have to tighten these. The more you tighten the higher your lift will be. However you need to measure the distance from your wheel well to the ground before you start this. Then keep turning the bolts untill your new measurement equels anywhere from 1.5"-2". NO HIGHER
These are pretty vague descriptions but there are TONS of threads about this on here.
ALRIGHT I GOT THE WARRIOR SHACKLES BUT IT SAYS IT WILL LIFT UP THREE INCHES AS OPPOSED TO 1 1/2 OR TWO. THEY HAD DIFFERENT SIZES AND I GOT THE BIGGEST ONES. ANYWAY, I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS SPOTING THE TORSION BOLT AND THE FRONT SPRING SPACERS ARE NOT THAT SIMPLE EITHER. I AM THINKING INSTEAD, TO HAVE A SHOP DO IT BUT I THINK DOING IT YOUSELF IS HALF THE FUN. WELL ID I DO CHOOSE NOT TO DO IT MYSELF I WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH, ON AVERAGE, DO THEY CHARGE TO DO IT. THANKS FOR ALL YR HELP!
I ALMOST FORGOT , YOU SAID IT WAS ABOUT $55 WITH SHIPPING .... IS THAT FOR THE SET OF TWO OR JUST FOR ONE SIDE AND ANOTHER 55 FOR THE OTHER? I GOT MINE FOR 23 EACH SIDE.
it is a 3 inch longer shackle thus the 1.5 inches ...you must account that the truck settles..... also $55 is the price for both the left and the right rear shackles..the pair...
Well you should have gotten part number WAR-153
Also you will never find your torsion bolts. The reason is you dont have any. You have coils in the front. Torsion bars are only on newer Xs with IFS. You need f150 coil spacers to lift the front
PS. Typing in all caps is considered to be yelling. So unless you mean to yell at us please dont type in all caps.
yea OK89 is right. That is my fault. I thought you had a newer explorer. You will have to buy the f150 coils. Not sure about price. Sorry about that..
Yea and the $55 was for both shackles. Im not sure which ones you got but you definately should go with the warrior shackles part number war-153 from that phone number I gave you earlier.
and yes the shackles are 3" longer thus giving you a 1.5" lift.
I GOT THEM AT SOME SHOP WHERE THEY DO SUSPENSIONS AND STUFF BUT WASNT A 4X4 SHOP.
ALSO I AM STILL WAITING ON HOW TO INTSTALL THE SHACKLES ON. I MEAN IF THERE IS NO TORSION BOLT WHAT DO I DO?
