200,000 Miles

Thats the think about every auto maker. Some last forever and some quit early.

Agreed. My dad's always been a Chevy man and has always taken great care of his vehicles and he had a '94 Silverado in which the engine blew at only 75,000 miles. Now he has a 2003 Silverado.

Personally, I love my Explorer and have had good luck with it (knock on wood) but I've heard plenty of people complain that they are junk etc etc. I think it all depends on luck of the draw with buying an automobile.

I bought a 96 Blazer used, with 62K on the clock, had it about 400 miles and it needed a engine. Broken piston is what I was told, had problems with the remaned engine. Hence why I'm driving an Explorer now, and am very pleased thus far.

congrats! i'm on 205k and still doing great!

You know, it's kinda funny or ironic because I grew up in a Chevy-loving family. Therefore, my whole life I HATED Ford. However, the only two vehicles I've ever owned have been Ford Explorers and I've been very pleased with both. Bought my '91 when I was 17 only because it was in good shape and the price was right and was surprised in how well it held up. I'm 23 now and have had my current Ex for about 3 years and don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon. In fact, the only reason I got rid of the first one was because it needed a lot of little things fixed and I didn't feel like dealing with that at the time, came across the '99 and feel in love.

Like wise, first two vehicles were Blazers,, s-10's. First one was an 87, didn't have to many problems, high miles so what I did get was expected. But the 96 was garbage, starters, alternators, ENGINES, I forget what else, all before 75K. Foke that, I'm very pleased with my X. :salute:

146,000 on my 96 XLT--new AC system, blend door, ball joints, and transfer case have been the main items to fix besides basic maintenence over the past 10 years. Bank 1, sensor 2--3x replaced!! It was clock work for 3 years straight--right before emissions testing.

Overall, my Explorer has been a very solid, reliable vehicle.

My 96 has just over 201K miles and has had very few problems:

Water pump this past October
Fuel pump in November
Radiatior this past weekend

Besides that just regular maint. is all that has been worked on/replaced over the years.
